MedDMO will participate through its representatives in the 14th Regional Growth Conference, taking place at the Conference and Cultural Center of the University of Patras from May 19 to 21.
Nikos Sarris, Collaborating Researcher at CERTH-ITI and Coordinator of the Mediterranean Digital Media Observatory (MedDMO), will speak at the conference, contributing his expertise to its proceedings.
More specifically, he will speak in the session titled “Disinformation and Artificial Intelligence: Threat and Antidote for the Regions”, which will seek to explain how generative AI is changing the landscape of disinformation, as well as how AI can be utilized as a tool of defense.
The session is scheduled for today from 16:30 to 19:30.
His presentation will focus on the European Commission’s actions against disinformation, particularly through the European Digital Media Observatories, while also highlighting MedDMO’s research team, which specializes in multimedia analysis for the detection of manipulated content such as deepfakes.
Also participating in the same panel will be journalist and fact-checker Chrysa Angelaki, who works with Ellinika Hoaxes, an organization that is part of the MedDMO consortium.
The conference will run until Thursday, May 21, and will feature contributions from numerous representatives of Greece’s political and academic communities, as well as stakeholders from the economy, business sector, and local government. All participants will gather to exchange thoughts, ideas, and proposals for the regional development of Greece.
