Language Policy

The MedDMO hub covers three countries in the Mediterranean region Greece, Cyprus, and Malta. Given the linguistic diversity of the region and the need to ensure accessibility of information, the MedDMO website provides content in Greek and English.

The aim of this approach is to ensure that the hub’s work, findings, and resources are available in languages that are understandable to the largest possible share of the population across the three countries. By offering content in both Greek and English, MedDMO seeks to effectively communicate its message, support fact-checking efforts, and promote media literacy among different audiences.

The Greek and English versions of the website do not contain identical material. Each language section is designed to better serve the audiences most relevant to that linguistic community.

The Greek version of the website primarily includes material addressing the Greek-speaking population. In particular, fact-checks published in Greek focus mainly on narratives circulating in Greece and Cyprus.

The English version of the website includes content that is relevant mainly -but not exclusively- to the audience in Malta, especially in the case of fact-checking articles.

The same principle is followed across the rest of the website’s content. Articles, investigations, and media literacy materials are published in the language that best serves the intended audience and the context in which the topic is relevant.

Through this language policy, MedDMO aims to ensure that its work remains accessible, relevant, and meaningful for audiences across the three participating countries.
