Yesterday’s media literacy and digital verification workshop held in Larissa, Greece brought together eight journalists from regional media organizations, including online news platforms and radio stations.
The participants represented a broad mix of ages, professional experiences, and levels of familiarity with digital verification techniques, creating a dynamic learning environment centered on the evolving challenges of journalism in the age of AI.
Journalists showed a particular interest in practical verification techniques that could be directly applied to their daily reporting routines.
One of the strongest themes that emerged from the seminar was the growing concern surrounding the spread of misinformation by media outlets; a topic most participants felf directly related to.
Both theoretical discussions and practical demonstrations on AI-generated images, videos, and manipulated content generated significant interest among attendees.
Participants responded especially positively to examples drawn from the Greek media landscape, noting that local and region-specific case studies made the training more relatable and easier to understand.

Feedback from participants suggested that the balance between practical application and conceptual understanding was highly appreciated.
One participant described the seminar as “extremely interesting and educational,” emphasizing that the section on identifying AI-generated content stood out because of the practical examples and tools presented.
Another attendee praised the exercises for helping participants become “more perceptive” in recognizing the “pitfalls” of artificial intelligence.
Several journalists highlighted the importance of continuing such initiatives, especially outside major urban centers. One participant noted that specialized training opportunities are rarely available in cities outside Athens, underlining the value of bringing expertise directly to regional media professionals.
Overall, the workshop demonstrated the increasing demand among regional journalists for practical, accessible training on verification, misinformation, and artificial intelligence.
As digital manipulation techniques continue to evolve, participants clearly recognized the importance of equipping themselves with new tools and methodologies to maintain credibility and uphold journalistic standards.
