The Mediterranean Digital Media Observatory (MedDMO) will attempt to map out the complex world of disinformation at the International Journalism Forum organized by iMEdD in Athens September 26-28. In the workshop “Understanding Tampered Images/Deepfakes Impact by Monitoring User Reactions through Attention Detection Mechanism,” presented by Charalampos Dimoulas, Anastasia Katsaounidou, and Ioanna Kostarella, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest developments and innovative tools developed by MedDMO for identifying tampered or synthetic visual content, such as deepfakes.
The key benefits of attending the workshop include a deeper understanding of the disinformation landscape in the Mediterranean region, insights into how to detect and verify information in the digital age, and access to valuable resources and tools for combating disinformation.
The data and tools presented will come from three research projects in which the workshop presenters participate or coordinate:
- MedDMO (Mediterranean Digital Media Observatory, meddmo.eu), with Professor Andreas Veglis as the scientific lead for Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Dr. Nikolaos Sarris from CERTH/ITI as the central coordinator,
- iMedius (Integrating Multidisciplinary Media Impact Assessment Instruments, imedius.gr), led by Professor Charalampos Dimoulas,
- SHAZAAM (Science Hoaxes to Avoid Alienation in Generation Z – A Media Literacy Approach, shazaam.eu), led by Associate Professor Ioanna Kostarella
