Over 150 students in Malta got to participate in media and misinformation workshops organised by representatives from the University of Malta’s Department of Media and Communications in the past week.
Sessions were held in San Andrea School, St Martin’s College and Junior College.
The students, who ranged from 11 to 17, were introduced to MedDMO and engaged in discussions about misinformation and disinformation, how to question content, and how the term ‘fake news’ can actually be used by abusive figures as a means of censoring true journalism.
By the amount of questions and comments throughout the three sessions, it is clear that these are subjects children and teenagers would like to speak more about. Some students even wished that the sessions were longer.
