The Mediterranean Digital Media Observatory (MedDMO) participated in the cluster event for Safer Internet Centres (SICs) and European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) hubs, hosted by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) on 5 December 2025 in Brussels. MedDMO was represented by its Coordinator, Nikos Sarris, who presented the hub’s communication strategy, objectives, and overall impact.

Strengthening trust and visibility in MedDMO’s communication strategy
During the event, MedDMO outlined its communication approach and its mission to counter disinformation across the Mediterranean region. The presentation focused on the hub’s overarching goal of building visibility and awareness around MedDMO’s role, while establishing a trusted and recognisable presence within the wider EDMO ecosystem. Emphasis was placed on fostering engagement among academics, journalists, policymakers, and the general public, as well as on the effective dissemination of verified information and media literacy initiatives.
Reflecting on MedDMO’s experience, the presentation highlighted key lessons learned, including the importance of flexibility in communication strategies to reach diverse audiences, the role of consistent organic content in ensuring sustainable engagement, and the added value of strategic event participation in amplifying communication impact beyond digital channels. Collaboration with partners with strong readerships and established followings was also identified as a positive contributor to engagement levels. Overall, MedDMO reported strengthened online brand recognition across multiple platforms, outreach to diverse audiences, and a reinforced role within the broader EDMO community.

Enhancing cooperation and synergies across Europe
The cluster event brought together representatives of Safer Internet Centres and EDMO hubs to exchange best practices and lessons learned in the field of media and digital literacy at a time when online access to news has increased exposure to disinformation. By fostering networking and cooperation at national, regional and EU level, the event highlighted the added value of closer collaboration among DIGITAL Europe beneficiaries, contributing to greater impact, efficiency, and stronger synergies in efforts to enhance critical thinking and counter disinformation across Europe.
